Ballet Opera House
Toronto, Ontario

Designed as the performance center and home for the National Ballet of Canada and the Canadian Opera Company, the heart of the project is a 2,000-seat auditorium modeled on the great horseshoe opera houses of Europe and intended to recreate their intimate scale while maintaining excellent acoustics and sight lines. Four additional support stages are also provided.

Public spaces including retail and café facilities are organized around a five-story rotunda. Virtually every office, workshop, and rehearsal room is day lit, creating a pleasant work environment for 800 regular inhabitants.
