United States Courthouse
Mobile, Alabama

With a site on two blocks in historic Mobile, adjacent to the existing John Campbell Courthouse, the new US Courthouse building serves as the northern boundary of the downtown business district and transitions from the large scale to the smaller scale of the adjacent De Tonti Square Historical residential district. The courthouse design reflects the dignity and permanence of the judicial system while responding to the needs of an efficient, secure, sustainable and technologically advanced program. There was a further challenge of creating an inviting community building which has the image of an open judiciary while maintaining its strong civic presence.
